Independent films, by their nature, are labors of love. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love is one of those films. This film, like many independents, was made for almost no money by a committed and dedicated cast and crew who worked for nothing. We did the film this way because we wanted total control over the material and because we believed in the project. Now is when the film is let loose in the harsh world of capitalism and this is where we need your support.
There is no one lesbian or gay or straight story, there is no one way to portray first love or second love or love the tenth time around. Other filmmakers need the chance to tell their stories and they won't get their chance if a film like this doesn't play in the theatres. The only way that this kind of filmmaking can survive is if it is supported at the box office. This is the only language that distributors, producers and film studios understand and this is the only way we can tell them that we want independent movies with independent visions like this one.
Unlike Batman or Crimson Tide or Apollo 13, indie films rely on word of mouth -- and not huge television advertising campaigns -- to survive and to thrive. That's why we are appealing to film lovers out there to choose an independent feature film like The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love this summer as your movie of choice.
If you have already seen the film and enjoyed it, then tell your friends. If your friends have already seen it then tell your family -- if your family has already seen it then get them to tell their friends! For independent films to survive they need to be supported by film fans across the country.
