New York (January 14, 2004) – Fine Line Features President Mark Ordesky announced the acquisition of Meg Wolitzer’s The Wife, to be adapted and directed by Jane Anderson. Anderson, who is repped by Martin Gage and Jonathan Westover at the Gage Group, is an accomplished and award-winning writer and director for theatre, television and film. Her film credits include “How to Make An American Quilt” and “It could Happen to You”. Her television credits include “If These Walls Could Talk 2”, as well as “The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader Murdering Mom” for which she received an Emmy for Best Teleplay, a WGA Award, and PEN Award. Anderson’s “The Baby Dance” has received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for TV; Anderson has also received numerous nominations for “Normal” which include: a DGA nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television, as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for TV. Meg Wolitzer’s deal was made on behalf of Sterling Lord Literistic by Hotchkiss and Associates.

The Wife tells the story of the faithful wife of a literary giant who decides to leave her husband on the eve of his receiving a Major Book Award, thus unearthing the many dark secrets of their marriage.

“We are delighted to be working with Jane Anderson,” said Ordesky. “She has such a wonderful cinematic style – visually rich and emotionally deep. We know she will handle The Wife with the sensitivity, subtlety and sophistication it deserves, and that she will attract great actors to the project”.

The deal was negotiated by Carolyn Blackwood. Merideth Finn will serve as executive in charge of the production for Fine Line Features.
