BEFORE NIGHT FALLS WINS GRAND JURY, BEST ACTOR PRIZES AT VENICE FILM FESTIVAL.
Venice, Italy (September 11, 2000) - Julian Schnabel's Before Night Falls triumphed at the Venice Film Festival, winning both the Grand Jury Prize and the Best Actor award (Javier Bardem). "This is unbelievable," director Julian Schnabel said when he accepted the Grand Jury Prize. "I'm speechless, and that's something rare for me because I talk all the time. This is a dream for me. Thanks to everyone and thank you, Reinaldo." Before Night Falls is based on the extraordinary life of Cuban novelist and poet Reinaldo Arenas, and will be released by Fine Line Features later this year.
