New York (October 10, 2002) – Fine Line Features President Mark Ordesky announced the acquisition of worldwide rights to Birth, to be directed by Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast). Birth starts production in New York City in January 2003. An offer has been made for Nicole Kidman to star.

Birth is a dramatic mystery set in New York's Upper East Side. Into the life of a 35 year old woman, Anna, comes a 10 year old boy, David, who is in love with her and convinced he is the reincarnation of her dead husband. Drawn to remember her past, Anna begins to question the choices she's made, much to the concern and consternation of her fiancé and her family.

Already a successful commercial and music video director, Jonathan Glazer burst onto the movie scene in 2000 with his debut feature Sexy Beast, starring Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley (who was nominated for an Academy Award® for his role.) Glazer will direct from the script he co-wrote with Jean-Claude Carriere (Belle de Jour, The Unbearable Lightness of Being) with additional dialogue by Milo Addica (who co-wrote Monster's Ball). Birth will be produced by Jean-Louis Piel and Wang Wei for Lou-Yi and Nick Morris and Lizie Gower for Academy. Xavier Marchand will executive produce. Ileen Maisel will oversee the production for Fine Line Features.

"This is an incredibly captivating and provocative script," said Ordesky. "And Jonathan Glazer's vision for it is so psychologically rich. It will be a bonanza for great actors."

The deal was negotiated by Mark Ordesky, Ileen Maisel and Carolyn Blackwood for Fine Line Features and George Hayum for Lou-Yi and Carlos Goodman for Academy.
