Mindel/Shaw Productions was formed in 1992 by Denise Shaw and Allan Mindel. Their first feature, Bodies, Rest and Motion, starred Eric Stoltz, Bridget Fonda, Phoebe Cates, and Tim Roth, and was directed by Michael Steinberg. They just recently produced Bed of Roses, starring Christian Slater and Mary Stuart Masterson, directed by Michael Goldenberg, which will be released later by New Line Cinema.
Shaw got her start in motion pictures in production and acquisitions for Roger Corman's New World Pictures. She followed with a stint as a literary agent at the William Morris Agency, where her specialty was working with writer/directors. In 1987 she relocated to the Gersh Agency, where she added packaging to her work.
In 1989 Shaw joined Allan Mindel at Flick East-West Talent, to start a packaging division for independent feature films. Bodies, Rest and Motion was her first effort as a producer.
Mindel got his start on the production side of the film business when he executive produced Gus Van Sant's My Own Private Idaho, starring Keanu Reeves and the late River Phoenix.
Mindel was the co-founder of Click Models, and founder of Flick East-West Talent Agency. At Click, he represented many of the top models who were at the forefront of the supermodel surge in the 1980s. After opening Flick, he helped start the acting careers of such talents as Isabella Rossellini, Lorraine Bracco, Uma Thurman, Kelly Lynch, Carey Lowell, Annabella Sciorra, and Viggo Mortensen.
Bernd Heinl has worked on several of director Percy Adlon's movies, including Bagdad Cafe, Rosalie Goes Shopping, and Younger and Younger. A veteran of European films, television series and commercials, Heinl was also the eyes behind the lens on Bodies, Rest and Motion, Suburban Commando, and My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys.
